Brand new to Charlotte, Mackenzie Gaines grew up in Lexington, KY (go cats!) but fell in love with the Carolinas while attending Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina.  A few barre classes and her first experience of the “runner’s high” was all it took to get Mackenzie hooked on fitness.  As she acquired a new appreciation for the infinite benefits of fitness and health, she was inspired to do more with her passion.

Mackenzie aspires to educate, encourage, and empower others to discover all they are capable of whether they are unsure how to take charge of their health, want to discover how to make fitness fun, or simply need an accountability partner.  She is grateful for the opportunity to be surrounded by like-minded people!

Mackenzie graduated from Furman with a bachelors degree in Health Sciences, studying all aspects of wellness including: exercise physiology, anatomy, nutrition, and public health.  In addition, she obtained her personal training certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).  She began to put her knowledge and contagious love for health and fitness to use, serving as a personal trainer to various Furman staff members and volunteering as a head running coach to girls ages 8-12 through Girls on the Run.

Mackenzie believes that finding the time to achieve a healthy body and mindset is the best gift you can give yourself and everyone around you. Being healthy and fit is essential to dealing with everyday stress, keeping spirits high, and having the confidence and energy to reach your full potential.  The key to instilling a lasting, healthy lifestyle is to find what you love and what makes you feel your best.  This is where Flex5 can help you “be the change!”

I can't speak highly enough of Flex5, and especially Mackenzie! I have been a fitness enthusiast, runner and yogi my whole life, but with a stressful job, and wedding around the corner, I came to Flex5 to get out of my fitness rut, and it has truly changed my life. I feel the best I ever have! Mackenzie has introduced a whole new fitness world to me that's not just hours of mundane running that I was used to. I'm challenged physically every time I come in, and even on days I can't she makes sure I have an at home workout or circuit for when I'm traveling for work. Mackenzie has become a true friend, and has helped me to not only grow to understand my body and fitness abilities, but has also been there to ease my mind leading up to my wedding, and provide advice along the way. ~Annie L., Charlotte

In the less than 2 months that I’ve been training with Mackenzie at Flex5, I’ve achieved my initial fitness goals of losing weight, increasing my endurance and stamina, as well as gaining strength.  This would not have been possible without her individualized focus and patience with me, not to mention her constant encouragement and push for me to go beyond my comfort zone in order to realize real strength – strength that I used to have back in the day but, which fell by the wayside due to a long period of managing through life’s stresses and coping via super unhealthy eating habits.  No doubt her approach is reflective of the Flex5 team’s philosophy which daily reminds me that if one part of me is out of whack, then the other parts are impacted too. Focus on total health and well-being is paramount.  I’ve learned the value of mental, nutritional, physical and spiritual health.  I’ve tried things I’ve never done before such as acupuncture and functional fitness. Truly I’m amazed at how my life has improved by shifting focus to making my whole self healthier.  Much love, and respect, to Mackenzie and the Flex5CLT team. ~Mayen O., Charlotte, NC

I would recommend Mackenzie to anyone!  Before training with Mackenzie, it had been years since I had gone to the gym.  Mackenzie made the transition easy, yet pushed me enough to allow me to reach my goals!  Workouts always went by quickly and I always left feeling accomplished!  She is very knowledgeable, energetic, and clearly loves what she does. ~ Robin S., Greenville, SC

My experience working out with Mackenzie was amazing.  I have lost weight on my own before, but have never found a way to keep the weight off. I feel that for the first time, Mackenzie provided me with the knowledge and resources necessary for me to reach my weight loss goals (in a healthy way) and maintain my progress.  Personal training was priceless. ~ Alicia M. Working with Mackenzie was a wonderful experience. She always greeted me with a smile and workouts were tough, but the time flew by. Both my strength and endurance improved dramatically while working with Mackenzie and I gained a whole new appreciation for exercise and developing a healthy lifestyle. Grateful for her services! ~ Todd M. (Greenville, SC)
